In this section we have put some of the containers that the Timorese use to store dry goods. Created by hand using available materials such as bamboo, coconut shells, gourds and wood generally these containers have hand rolled jungle string incorporated into the design so as to be able to hang the containers from the rafters and beams inside the cooking huts. Also look in GRASS WEAVES categoryfor other containers.
Handcarved Hooks and hangars are also represented here although I tend to leave the lower pigs jaws in situ.
We have also included a small selection of Stone Mortar and Pestles that I am occasionally offered. The holes in the Mortars represent 6-12 generations of pounding spices and are often several hundreds of years in the making.
