Scarves from Lembata Island NTT

I have two textiles left from this small but distinctive area. Lembata is essentially a limestone atoll created from the Australian plate moving upwards into Indonesia. This makes for very poor soil and the household incomes are supplemented through textiles whilst reaffirming a sense of cultural integrity. Although many women no longer weave, the talent is still there, so long as we stimulate the appreciation of the wider community in these heartfelt textiles we will encourage this tradition to continue.
