A favourite game played from the dirt gardens in the kampong to the smooth tiled verandahs of the city is gassing. In this game one or more competitors set off their tops by placing the spinning top stick between the palms of the hands and moving the palms in opposite directions and releasing the stick at the optimum point. Off goes the top, hurtling into the arena where one version of the many games is to knock out or stop your opponents top. This requires a great deal of accuracy.
There are several versions of the spinning top in Timor including this solid wooden dradle like top, although there are not many of these dradles in use in Timor. Cool huh!.
