Handcarved in the highlands of central West Timor from the highly prized Sandalwood that is native to the island SANTALUM ALBUM. Offering this trio carved by the elderly Pak Krusan of Roti in 1993. True sandalwood such as this is rare and will continue to exude its exotic fragrance long after we are gone.

Timor has a tradition of carving ancestor or guardian figures for various functions. One being to protect those still earthbound within the family and another being to use as a “photograph” to tell stories of the person to descendants. Still carved today using little more than a machette and a penknife by those who continue the carving tradition.
