Curiously hunched over elder ancestor figure hand carved from Timor

Statue  S337 – A curiously hunched over figure with a large head proportionately with his small body with arms bent backwards. He kneels on a solid base of red cedarwood / kayu merah that is not very stable. Acquired in the field in the early 1990’s.

I had no idea at the time that I had stumbled upon an Aladdin’s cave of authentic traditional tribal textiles and treasures.
