CM175 – This fantastic and unique medium is 6-10 MYO fossilised brain coral, Symphillia, Platgrya formed in the Miocene era. The individual granulation of each piece of coral evokes a very special feeling when carved. Every one unique. These pieces weather well inside or out. CITES certification available for international treasure hunters.
There is a long story behind these few remaining fossil coral masks and one statue that I have left. It is in my book, the saga that it was.
This half mask was one of the causalities but it looked so good on its own either rested in a garden or in a nest of other treasures. It may be a long time before I return to Timor let alone dance with the Customs devil to bring more Fossil Coral into Australia. Price includes postage within Australia. Timor is described as an “uplifted, faulted margin of the former Australian craton, composed of Permian-Upper Triassic 280MYO to Cretaceous 220 MYO aged rocks. Miocene 6-10 million years old and lower rocks form a thin layer in some areas”.
International buyers are welcome. Aus Post has returned the international 250gr parcel. This is great news as it is more economical to post small packets internationally now. YAY! A true shame that they have not done so for domestic.
I am Julie and have been collecting Timorese Treasures in the field since 1990 when I won a prize for overseas travel in a pub in Darwin [true]. I had no idea at the time that I had stumbled upon an Aladdin’s cave of authentic traditional tribal textiles and treasures. I have been returning annually ever since [well most years] and been witness to many changes across the last 3 decades. Read more about Timor and I in THE BIGGER PICTURE.
