Puppets and dolls are hand-carved by a few carvers, each with his distinctive style. Articulated, naked or dressed they represent both toys for kids as well as totemic ancestor fetish around which stories are passed on from generation to generation. Carved from wood and bone each is as unique as its carver.
The delightful Timorese pony is revered by the owners. Not many subsistence level families can afford to generate enough food [no buying horse feed here] to be able to maintain ponies for riding to and from market or bringing cow fodder from the jungle. There is however, an authentic range of accessories that occasionally are offered to me. Hand rolled string and knotted horse blanket/sacks, hand rolled bridles with hand beaten metal bits and whips are displayed here for your perusal.
